Retired property firm boss sacked from Party for taking bribes

A TOP manager of a property management firm in Pudong New Area has had his Party membership revoked in punishment for bribe-taking after retirement.

The announcement was published on the Pudong government Website yesterday for Yao Zhongxian, retired general manager of Xinchuan Property Management Co Ltd, the Xinhua news agency reported today.

Yao, during his tenure as the top manager from 1998 to 2004, sold Xichuan's land lots to two real estate companies Shengang and Xingdu.

In return, Yao got a car valued at 156,460 yuan (US$22,905.74) from the two companies as well as 260,655 yuan in wages for himself and his wife.

He didn't take the car and money until March 2004 when he retired, an arrangement agreed to avoid corruption charges.

Shengang and Xingdu allegedly gave bribes to Tao Jianguo, another official in Pudong, Xinhua said.

Tao, former division chief in charge of construction planning approvals for Pudong, allegedly accepted bribes of 14.85 million yuan from companies.
