Retiree spreads New Year cheer
MIGRANT workers who can't get back home for the Chinese Spring Festival on February 14 can join a Shanghai New Year's Eve dinner hosted by a retired resident by paying 1 yuan (15 cents).
"A great many non-local white-collar workers will stay in the city over the Chinese New Year to save money in the economic crisis or because it's difficult to buy train tickets," said retired resident Shao Jianpei.
"I want non-local workers to feel the warmth of a family. They can have a good party together instead of staying at home feeling lonely," he said.
He plans to invite 100 non-residents to join the party and people can apply for the event online before next week.
Shao started to learn computing about four years ago after his retirement and soon become a Webmaster on several popular online forums, including Soufun.com.
He has found sponsors including Websites and restaurants to pay for 10 tables of 10 diners.
