Reunion After Illegal Cab Trauma

A woman and her daughter who were abandoned in the middle of nowhere by an errant cabbie, finally got on board a foreign freighter to see the woman's husband yesterday, thanks to immigration police.

The woman said she paid 100 yuan (US$14.57) to the driver to take them to Luojing Dock at the mouth of the Yangtze River but the cabbie dumped them halfway after getting a call about a crackdown on unlicensed taxis. There was no one to ask for help, the woman said.

She phoned her husband and he alerted Wusong Port immigration police. After a 30-minute search they found the pair and made sure the family reunion took place.
