Reward for black cab tip-offs

PEOPLE will be awarded 500 yuan (US$73.75) by Shanghai's taxi association for tips leading to seizure of "cloned taxis," which use second-hand meters and cab equipment.
Traffic law enforcers will collect evidence and identify drivers and taxis to avoid criticisms of entrapment to set up innocent drivers, authorities said.
However, officials said it would be still hard for them to collect evidence as offenders usually use fake car plates.
Officials said the number of "cloned taxis" is increasing by 10 percent annually. So far this year officials have caught 109 fake cabs.
