Right royal knees-up for Wills and Kate
MORE than 150 people gathered yesterday at a downtown pub to celebrate the royal Wedding of Prince William and his bride Kate Middleton in London.
The party at O'Malley's on Taojiang Road began with afternoon tea and large-screen projectors were set up both in and outside the Irish pub to show wedding coverage until late in the evening.
Life-size images of the happy couple stood at the entrance of the pub, and revellers took the opportunity to get their photograph taken with Wills and Kate.
Many women dressed in a British style for the occasion, with fancy hats to the fore for the celebrations.
Katy Bow, president of Brits Abroad Shanghai, told Shanghai Daily that there were more than 150 people registered to join the party.
"We can't witness the wedding in our country but we can't miss it," said Bow.
Many "Brits" at the party were actually from Australia and the United States.
"It's a lot of fun to wear hats. It's a part of our culture," said one American woman watching the scenes from Westminster outside O'Malley's.
The American said she regarded herself as a fan of British style and a supporter of the British Royal Family.
