CONSTRUCTION of the east-to-west Beiheng Passage got under way yesterday, the city’s transport authority said. Work will first start at a construction site set up in the greenery area near Zhongjiang Road and Suzhou Creek in Putuo District. The passage will stretch for 19.4 kilometers, linking the districts of Changning, Jing’an, Putuo, Zhabei, Hongkou and Yangpu. It is expected to alleviate traffic pressure for northern Shanghai.
