Robbers target couples dating late in parks

TWO robbers targeting couples meeting at night in parks were jailed for 11 years and fined 20,000 yuan (US$2,929) each yesterday by the Hongkou District People's Court.

Wang Song and Ma Yong committed more than 10 robberies and stole 15,000 yuan in the past two months, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

Wang and Ma planned the robberies after failing to find jobs, the newspaper said.

In each case, Wang held a knife at the men's throats while Ma searched the victims' purses for money and property. Most victims were shift workers such as restaurant chefs and waitresses.
