Rush-hour 'ferry bus' on Huangpu River in service to ease road traffic

A new ferry service has been introduced today on a trial basis as a way to deal with rush hour crowd in the city.

The ferry will ply along the Huangpu River and connect major spots like Gongping Road, Jinling Road E., Dongchang Road and Taitongzhan.

A single journey will take around 30 minutes and cost 4 yuan, but it will only be available from 7:30am to 9am and 4:30pm to 6pm. The time interval between each rides is however 30 minutes, which may mean a long wait for office-going public.

The first ferry bus setting off for service this morning picked up about 20 people at Gongping Road ferry station at 7:30am, arrived at its first stop at Jinling Road ferry 20 minutes later and then ended the trip at 8:30 after docking at Lujiazui area in Pudong, a Shanghai Daily reporter found. Most of its passengers turned out seniors and middle-aged citizens, indicating more of its target users, the rush-hour officer-goers, still need to time to notice the new convenience.
