Sacked taxi driver arrested for robbing female cabbie confesses he also murdered prostitute two years ago

A man arrested over a robbery allegation is believed to be the killer of a prostitute who killed her after their sex deal two years ago, the the Songjiang District People's Procuratorate said Friday.

The suspect, surnamed Sun, was a onetime cabbie. When he was arrested on suspicion of robbing an unlicensed female cabbie last October, Sun allegedly made a confession to police that he had cut throat of a prostitute and killed her after having sex with her in 2014, the prosecutors said. 

Prosecutors said the former cabbie started getting addicted to gambling in late 2013 and had spent of his time on gambling. This had created an intense relationship between him and his wife. 

In January of 2014, Sun went to a small hair salon which offered sex service after having another quarrel over his gambling issues, according to prosecutors. 

Sun allegedly picked up the victim, surnamed Du, and took her to a rented flat to have sex. He allegedly talked about his family issues when chatting with the prostitute. Sun allegedly said the woman commented ‘(Since you behaved so), no wonder your wife had so many disputes with you,” which made him angry. He allegedly said his fury further grew after the victim suggested he was having sexual function problems. He allegedly confessed that he followed the victim to a bathroom with a knife on his hand and pointed it at her throat. Sun allegedly said the woman’s throat was cut by the knife as they fought. 

Sun allegedly said he fled the scene and had lived in Kunshan, in neighboring Jiangsu Province for about half a month before he returned to the city and continued to work in Songjiang District as a cabbie. 

He was fired last year and started running out of income. He planned a robbery and picked up an unlicensed female cabbie. He boarded her car with a piece of broken glass. He threatened the female cabbie by pointing the broken glass at her threat. When he was getting the money, the victim managed to flee and alarmed police. 

Sun was seized by police the next day. DNA evidences collected from both bases match with Sun’s, police said.
