Safe theft leads to man
A man has been detained and charged with stealing more than 200,000 yuan (US$31,395) and other valuables from a transport company he worked for, city police said yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Liu, brought home a safe from the company and cut it open on June 24, police said. Liu, who was questioned by the police after the company reported the loss, returned to his hometown in central China's Hunan Province, police said. The suspect later surrendered to the police. Police found about 120,000 yuan remaining in the safe as Liu spent the rest. Other stolen goods included fuel cards, necklaces and bracelets.
