Sand carving
A MINIATURE of a sand carving called "African Smiles" has been erected at the Africa Joint Pavilion's north gate. The carving uses sand from the continent's Sahara Desert and the beaches of the Zhoushan islands in Zhejiang Province.
The piece is part of a sand carving festival that will start on September 29 at the Zhujiajian scenic area in Zhoushan. The festival will include more than 50 works, all themed around African scenery, people, cultures and customs.
