Saudi entry gets quicker
The Expo organizer and the Saudi Pavilion plan to hand out 500 passes inside the Urban Best Practices Area which offer faster access to the popular national pavilion.
The pass will spare visitors a long wait in the queue outside the pavilion, said its director, Dr Mohammad Alissan Alghamdi.
Visitors have to wait for at least three hours to visit the pavilion at present. It has already opened a fast track for elderly visitors.
The pavilion, which handles about 25,000 visitors a day, has added shades outside for visitors who usually form a 1,000-meter queue.
The pavilion director said he hoped to halve the three-hour waiting time.
The pavilion is expecting to see about 5 million visitors during the 184-day event.
The director also encouraged viewers to see the Tent City of Mina in Puxi's Urban Best Practices Area.
"How a city, only used three days a year, operates and makes pilgrims' journeys better," he said. "That's the challenge."
Mina, 7 kilometers from Mecca, is host to about 3 million pilgrims for just three days each year.
They live in tents which have been updated to make them fire-proof and more comfortable and the city's infrastructure has also been improved.
A clean energy train route in the city is to be finished this year and there are plans to build another four routes with the help of the Chinese government.
