Scammers use credit card info
A SOUTH Asian man, who allured an American man by impersonating a woman, has been sentenced to nine months in jail for illegally using the victim's credit card information, according to Shanghai Public Security Bureau yesterday.
The victim's loss was an estimated 15,000 yuan (US$2,200). The suspect, identified as Peter, showed up in Shanghai's five-star hotels and bars every day, dressed as a woman and spending money using the card information, police said.
In a similar case, two men were arrested for illegally faking credit cards and cashing over 1 million yuan.
The suspects illegally installed recording facilities and pinhole cameras on several ATM machines in the city, said police, who urged people to look out for ATMs that had been tampered with.
