School molester fired after students speak out 15 years later

A Shanghai high school official was sacked today after boy students he taught 15 years ago reappeared and accused him of having "intimate body contact" with them after class.

Zhang Datong, vice dean of East China Normal University No. 2 High School and a renowned instructor for International Physics Olympiad, was fired for "behavior violating teacher's ethics", the school said in a statement.

"The investigation is ongoing and we don't know whether he is guilty of molesting boys as online accusations said," a teacher who refused to be named told Shanghai Daily.

Zhang was sacked one day after a dozen grown-up men who claimed to be his students 15 years ago revealed on Weibo microblogging site that they were molested by their teacher. They used their real names in Weibo posts.

"As a physics teacher, Zhang's behavior toward male students violated the ethics of teachers. He used body examination as an excuse to grope them," said one former student, Liu Yidong, in his post.
