School student stabs infant half sister

A THREE-MONTH-OLD baby was allegedly stabbed by her half sister, a high school student, on Sunday, suffering injuries to her head and neck.

The two girls have the same father, a man in his 50s. The teenager girl was born to the unidentified man's ex-wife and didn't live with her father and his new wife.

The school girl visited her father, who stayed in a residential complex in the Pudong New Area, on Sunday and stabbed her half sister while the little one was sleeping.

The infant is stable but under observation in hospital.

Police are still investigating the incident.

The teenager girl, whose current address was not revealed, came to the father's apartment around noon yesterday when the baby was sleeping in the bedroom. She went to see the infant while her father was chatting with his wife in the living room.

They soon heard a loud cry from the bedroom and found the baby girl lying in a pool of blood with the teenager standing beside her, holding a fruit knife, which she had carried with her.

The child was rushed on neighbor's vehicle to the Shanghai Children's Medical Center, where she is in the intensive care unit.

The teenager's relatives from her father's side said she was good at her studies and was generally of a quiet nature.

She visited her father from time to time and seemed normal, his neighbors added.

Police said they are still investigating the case and have not detained the teenager yet.
