Season begins soon for hairy crabs
LOVERS of hairy crab won't have long to wait until they can eat the autumn delicacies - Yang Cheng hairy crab will be sold in Shanghai from September 21.
The crustaceans may also be bigger this year because the cool summer has been ideal for their growth conditions, the Oriental Morning Post reported today.
And the coupon price of genuine Yang Cheng hairy crabs is also likely to fall by up to 20 percent this year, despite the rising cost of raising them, said a supplier. Last season the crabs cost 600 to 1,000 yuan a kilogram.
The report said this price may drop because of increased competition from suppliers of other types of crab and against the background of the global financial crisis.
