Senior local couple believed to have killed themselves by burning coal inside village house

An old couple who lived in Dongcun Village, in Jinshan District, were found dead in flames around 1pm last Sunday.
The couple, both locals in their 80s, could have set fire to their own house by burning coal and killed themselves, police told Shanghai Daily.
Police said inside the house they found a hand-written note believed to have left by the deceased couple. The wife was paralyzed and bed-ridden. In the note, it’s alleged that the children did not take care of them.
The Dongcun Village authority declined to comment on the incident.
An official with the residential committee of Jinwei Village of Jinwei Town, where the woman had lived about two decades ago with her first husband, told Shanghai Daily that she heard their family problem "was complicated".
“There’s words saying that her last husband was grumpy and would not allow her children to visit them,” she said without giving her real name.
