Shanghai Citizen’s Art Festival soon to be blazing with fresh, new events

Ever since it’s launch in March, the Shanghai Citizen’s Art Festival has already hosted more than 10,000 cultural events at the city's community centers.

This summer, 6,500 new events will be organized, said the officials.

According to Xiao Yeying, an organizer of the festival, a series of summer camps will be available to children and teens, such as courses of theater, Shanghai dialect, reading and magic.

To commemorate China’s victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, a relics exhibition will be staged at the Shanghai Mass Art Center in September. Most of the items were collected by local citizens, including old photographs, wartime postcards and newspapers of the time.

Contests of singing, dancing, micro movie making and handicraft will also be held.

The Vocal Asia Festival, to be held from August 5 to 9, is also one of the highlights.

It is the first time the festival, a famous cultural and arts brand of a cappella in Asia, will come to Shanghai.

During the event, a celebrated American group named Naturally 7 and the widely-known Japanese vocalist, Kaichiro Kitamura, will perform a cappella version of popular songs.

Workshops, public lectures and children's trial classes will additionally be presented to promote the stunning music form of a cappella - singing without the support of musical instruments.
