Shanghai Gets Civilized As Expo Approaches
SHANGHAI is striding ahead with environmental-improvements, polishing-up residents' manners and the quality of service in local establishments in the run-up to the 2010 World Expo, according to the second Expo Civilization Index, which was released yesterday.
The index, with a maximum of 100 points, inched up almost 2 percent to 80.35 points yesterday, which marked 400 days until the World Expo.
Starting last September, the city government has been surveying the environment, the manners of locals and the quality of services in all the city's 18 districts and Chongming County. It will publish the results index every 100 days.
Downtown Luwan District outperformed Jing'an District to top the district list, with a civilization index of 85.34 points. Public service sectors such as airports, libraries and the customs service ranked highly with locals when polled about their satisfaction levels.
