Shanghai Metro app to work in Beijing
From December 1, people who use the ticket apps of Metro operators in Shanghai and Beijing can use either app to take Metro trains in either city.
The app of Shanghai Metro is 鈥淢etro Daduhui,鈥 and its Beijing counterpart is 鈥淵itongxing.鈥
Since December 2018, users of the Shanghai app now have been able to take the subway in 12 other cities in China, covering the entire Yangtze River Delta region as well as 30 percent of all cities that have Metro in China.
The app has so far served over 6.1 million users, according to Shanghai Metro.
Users of the Shanghai app need only to choose Beijing as the city of their location when taking a Metro train in Beijing for the first time, and vice versa for users of the Beijing app.
Currently the apps support only Alipay and UnionPay Quick Pass, but they will be able to support WeChat pay too around the end of this year, Shanghai Metro said.
However, people who use the Shanghai app to take Beijing Metro won鈥檛 be entitled to discounts like those who use the Beijing app, and vice versa.
Shanghai and the capital Beijing have the largest subway networks in China.
