Shanghai chokes on smog as air heavily polluted

Shanghainese woke up to a smoggy weather this morning with the air being heavily polluted.
The air quality index peaked at 218 at 8am, with the main smog pollutant PM2.5 particles reaching over 160 micrograms per cubic meter, city’s environment monitor said.
People with weak respiratory systems are advised to stay indoors today.
The temperature is forecast to reach 21 degrees Celsius today, weather forecasters said.
