Shanghai film group announces new IP film plans adapted from popular online novels

SHANGHAI Film Group Corporation yesterday announced the production plans of four films. Amongst the four, three were adapted from popular novels first published on the Internet. In addition, the Chinese film giant announced the establishment of a distribution alliance with four other film and distribution companies from provinces such as Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Sichuan and Henan.

The new chain, crossing over five Chinese provinces and with a total of 750 theaters and 4,000 screens that covers all of the top fifty box office cities, has about 20 percent of market share in the Chinese film market.

“We are confident to bring the market share up to 25 percent in the next three years,” said Zhang Feng, the general manager of Shanghai Film Group Corporation.
Last year, the film distribution giant Wanda Group had acquired the AMC distribution chain in the US. Furthermore, they formed an alliance with three other companies.
