Shanghai leads country in Smart City construction

Shanghai leads other mainland cities in building infrastructure for telecommunications and data transmission, according to a 2013 report published yesterday by the China Center for Information Industry Development.
The report contained statistics from 2010 to 2013. Shanghai ranked first in Networked Readiness Index and IT Application Index and took the third place in IT Utilization Index.
Shanghai published its Smart City Development Plan in 2011 in a bid to boost the local IT industry. It now leads the nation in the scale of fiber-optic network, wireless service coverage, and HDTV and IPTV subscription.
The city is speeding up the Smart City construction by vigorously promoting such high-tech sectors as could computing, Internet of Things, new energy and new materials.
