Shanghai prison updates website to allow families check latest information of prisoners behind bars

SHANGHAI Prison updated its official website over the weekend to allow families of prisoners check latest information of their relatives behind bars and also to help the public get better understanding of history and status quo of local prisons.

Families only have to submit prisoners’ ID numbers, their exclusive numbers in prisons and enquirers’ mobile phone numbers, which have been registered with prison administration in advance, and then they can see performance, as well as rewards and punishments of their relatives in prison, such as penalty commutation and medical records.

An online prison museum is also available on the website now to show the inside of Tilanqiao Prison, the oldest existing prison in Shanghai also known as Ward Road Jail built in 1901 by British authorities. People can see high-definition pictures and illustrations of exhibits in the museum on the website, such as iron gates and widows, uniforms, cells, wagons and hanging room in old prisons so as to have a glimpse of local prisons along the history.

Visitors can also see movies and documentaries of modern prisons on the new websites
