Shanghai residents feel Jiangsu earthquake

RESIDENTS in Shanghai's north and east said they felt their buildings shaking this morning when a mild earthquake hit the city's neighboring Jiangsu Province.

The earthquake will not have negative impacts on Shanghai, Shanghai Earthquake Administration said on its website.

The earthquake measured 4.0 on the Richter scale, detected at 10:24am, 12 kilometers deep in the sea near Rudong County of Jiangsu Province's Nantong City, according to the office's website.

The epicenter is 132 km from downtown Shanghai.

Most residents complaining about shaking homes lived on the 15th floors in Lujiazui and Lingang New City in the city's east and Wujiaochang and Daning areas in the city's north.
