Elderly woman returns home safely after mistaking bullet train for subway
POLICE in Nanjing helped an elderly woman return to Shanghai after she mistakenly boarded a bullet train instead of a subway and ended up nearly 300 kilometers from her home in the capital city of Jiangsu Province, Nanjing Daily reported.
The 86-year-old woman, surnamed Chen, was found by police wandering alone on the last bullet train as it pulled into the Nanjing railway station about 10pm on Sunday. She was holding a plastic bag filled with vegetables and fruits.
She seemed disoriented and police couldn’t get her to understand what they were saying. They found a card in her pocket with her name and family contacts. They then called her son to explain the situation, the report said.
It turns out Chen got lost on her way home after going to the market on Sunday afternoon. She then followed a woman, whom she believed was her neighbor, and bought a ticket at what she thought was a Metro station when she was in fact at a train station.
She ended up in Nanjing after spending more than 1 hour on the bullet train. Nanjing police and railway staff helped Chen board a train to Shanghai later Sunday evening and she eventually made it home safely.
