Shanghai wages up 8.3% in 2012
THE average income of Shanghai workers rose 8.3 percent to 56,300 yuan (US$9064.3) last year, compared with an 11.1 percent increase in 2011, the local statistics bureau revealed.
The bureau said Shanghai employees earned an average of 4,692 yuan a month in 2012, 361 yuan higher than in 2011, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
By industry, workers in the financial sector earned much more, averaging 167,173 yuan in 2011, followed by workers in the utilities industry. Workers in domestic service, hotel and catering industries were among the least paid, earning an average of about 23,000 yuan a year.
