Shanghai-Hefei rail trip cut to 2 hours

A HIGH-SPEED train trip between Shanghai and Hefei, capital city of Shanghai's neighboring Anhui Province, will be cut by a third to two hours from July, today's Hefei Daily reported.

This will happen after the high-speed passenger train line between Shanghai and Nanjing, capital of neighboring Jiangsu Province, is completed, the newspaper quoted Shanghai Railways Bureau as saying.

The Shanghai-Nanjing line will carry passengers at up to 350 kilometers an hour, with the trip taking just one hour.

Meanwhile, construction of 12 high-speed rail lines is in full swing in Shanghai and neighboring Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces.

The investment is expected to reach more than 100 billion yuan (US$14.65 billion) this year, according to the railway bureau.
