Shanghai-Nanjing fast trains double to 100 a day
HIGH-SPEED trains between Shanghai and Nanjing, capital of neighboring Jiangsu Province, will be doubled to 100 a day in May to bring more visitors to the World Expo.
Another 21 trains will be added to Shanghai from other cities, today's Oriental Morning Post reported, citing the Railway Ministry.
Extra trains will be added this month between Shanghai South Railway Station and Lhasa, Nanning and Xiamen.
The ministry forecast a sharp rise in train passengers during the six-month Expo, expecting 40 percent of the anticipated 70 million visitors would arrive in Shanghai by train.
Construction is in full swing for the new Shanghai-Nanjing Passenger Rail Line, which, now under testing, will open to service from July.
