Ships bump each other on Huangpu with light damage
A cruise ship scuffed with a sand barge yesterday on the Huangpu River, but caused no serious damage or fuel leak, said the local maritime officials.
The collision that happened at 12:55pm in the river near the Dongjiadu Ferry did not affect the voyage of the two ships.
The rear of the Suzhou Cruise, which was about to leave a dock, collided with the starboard of the sand barge, the officials said.
Both ships continued their journey after maritime authorities conducted safety checks. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, officials said.
As the river gets busier with more cargo ships and sightseeing cruises plying the water channel, the maritime administration said it keeps a close eye on water traffic to prevent accidents.
