A man who robbed and killed his friend for not lending money for his honeymoon faced charges in court last Saturday, Baoshan District prosecutors said today.

His friend surnamed Gong was found dead in a car repair shop on Tieshan Road in Baoshan on January 20. The suspect, surnamed Liu, was the owner of the repair shop.

Liu told police that he was about to take an overseas honeymoon tour the next day but was still short of money. He called Gong to borrow 50,000 yuan (US$8,070).

Gong came but did not want lend him cash. He only agreed to transfer money to Liu’s overdrawn credit card and withdraw the money immediately using the POS machine in the shop.

Liu was very angry for being refused. When Gong was about to withdraw money with the POS machine, Liu attacked him with a hammer and fled with Gong's Jaeger LeCoultre watch, worth about 55,000 yuan, a bag containing 1,200 yuan in cash, and other belongings.

Liu was detained 10 days later in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
