Shower hits at noon while city is forecast to see major lightning and thunder till midnight
A shower hit the city about 30 minutes after the city's meteorological bureau issued alerts for lightning and rain storm today.
Dark clouds were found gathering in city's skies since this morning with some brief downpours at the central, western and northern areas of the city, forecasters said.
Due to the continuous influence of convective clouds, the city is expected to see some scattered thundershowers through tonight.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued two yellow alerts for lightning and rain storm again today at 11:49am.
According to the bureau, by 1pm, suburban Chongming County recorded the district highest rainfall of 25 millimeters, followed by Minhang District's 23 millimeters.
A weather station in Shuangtang Village in Jiading District even saw its rainfall reaching 34 millimeters.
Commuters are asked to keep their umbrellas or raincoats handy.
