Six Carrefour food products destroyed over quality problems
SIX Carrefour food products including cheese and yoghurt imported by a Shanghai trade company, Kraft sugar-free chocolate baking pieces and a New Zealand baby milk formula were destroyed or returned by China's Customs for quality problems, the country's top quality watchdog said yesterday.
Chocolate dessert sauce, cream, cheese, yoghurt and condensed milk bearing the Carrefour brand and imported from France were found to have various problems such as excessive coliform bacteria, less protein than required, excessive water content or past expiration date, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said.
The products, weighing 167 kilograms, were destroyed. They were imported by Shanghai Changqi Luzhong International Trade Co Ltd of Minhang and were made in France.
More than two tons of Kellogg's Raisin Bran, imported from South Korea, were destroyed for excessive mold.
Kraft sugar-free chocolate baking pieces were found to have excessive copper. Too much copper can affect the liver and gall bladder.
About 26 tons of Orkloland baby milk formula from New Zealand were returned for lower amounts of iodine than China's standard. Insufficient iodine intake may affect the functioning of the thyroid gland and brain.
