Six jailed for beating up duo, forcing them to eat cat excretions after suspecting they abused pets
SIX "animal rights" activists who beat up two people and forced them to eat cat wastes were sentenced to up to six months in jail for creating disturbance, the Pudong New Area People's Court said Tuesday.
The six offenders were all members of a WeChat group for "animal lovers" and they beat up the two victims because they suspected the duo had maltreated pets. Two of them surrendered themselves to police after the crime, the court said.
According to the court, in July last year, the six people found some videos online about cats and dogs' being abused and killed and became irritated by it. With the information they collected, they suspected the two victims, surnamed Liu and Yi, are the abusers and schemed a "revenge" for them.
On July 30, one of the suspects surnamed Zeng lured one of victims to a grove in the Pudong New Area. Though they were aware that Liu and Yi were not the two abusers they saw online, they believed them to be their accomplices.
The six of them beat them up, cut their hair and forced them to eat cat wastes.
Both Liu and Yi suffered bruises all over the body.
Since all the six compensated the victims and got their forgiveness, the court gave them a lighter penalty.
