Slovakian woman plunges to death
A young Slovakian model plunged to her death early yesterday morning from a high-rise in downtown Xuhui District.
Police said they ruled out murder.
Neighbors said the body of the woman, about 20, was found about 1:30am in a residential community on Xietu Road in Xuhui.
The woman, who lived at the top of the building on the 18th floor, fell or jumped and landed on a parked car, then bounced to the ground, said witnesses.
"I happened to glimpse a shadow falling down suddenly," said a resident surnamed Zhou, who lives on the ninth floor. Zhou said he first heard noise upstairs and then opened the window just in time to witness the fall.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
She lived in a large rented apartment together with four to five other foreign women, said a property management official of the building.
The women worked as models and had a Chinese man as their agent, neighbors said.
Police said the woman who died had a legal passport, worked in a local performance and communication company, and did not have a record of overstay in the city, according to their initial investigation.
The agent would use the apartment during the day while the women would come and stay overnight, residents said.
A resident surnamed Wang, who lives on the same floor as the women, said many young foreign women would often go in and out of the apartment. Sometimes there were also Chinese girls, added Wang.
"The girl just kissed goodbye to her boyfriend at midnight," said a security guard in the building.
Hours later the tragedy happened. Police said the case is still under investigating.
