Smoke from escalator shuts down subway station

A subway escalator spewed smoke in central Pudong around noon today, forcing Metro staff to close one platform, Shanghai Metro operator said.
The smoke was spotted around 11:30am on Metro Line 4 platform in the Century Avenue Station.
Metro officials said the platform was closed according to their contingency plan and trains were ordered to skip the station. As a result, passengers aboard those trains could not get off at the station.
Operation resumed before 12pm after smoke dissipated. An investigation is ongoing to find the cause of the smoke.
