Smugglers of fake tissue paper detained in Pudong

TWO suspects have been detained for smuggling fake tissue paper of well-known brands into Shanghai, police said today.

The brands were not revealed but the counterfeit was of poor quality, Pudong District police said.

Police received tip-offs about the men's underground storage early this month. A 200-square-meter warehouse in a village in Sanlin Town was found piled with packages of tissue paper. People came to take goods from time to time, police said.

In a raid on Tuesday night, Pudong police confiscated about 60,000 packages of fake tissue paper, all labeled as well-known brands.

The two suspects, surnamed Kong and Lin, were caught at the scene. They admitted to buying counterfeit products from Henan and Zhejiang provinces, police said.

Most of the fake tissue was sold to small grocery stores and supermarkets.
