South Korea visas simplified for local tourists

TRIPS to South Korea will become easier for city residents after visa procedures were simplified for citizens of Shanghai and three neighboring provinces.

From next month, they no longer need to submit employment certificates and the business licenses of their employers when applying for a group tourist visa, according to the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai.

The requirements will be further simplified for those with three ore more visits to South Korea or one visit to Japan, the United States, Australia or Europe.

For individual tourist visas, Shanghai residents will only have to show one financial document, down from two, under the new policy.

Tours to South Korea have become popular, with tourist volumes rising by 30 percent this year, according to tour agencies. Weekend shopping trips are especially busy.
