Speed control blamed on malfunction on Line 8 delays crowds of commuters

BIG crowds of commuters were stranded along stations on Metro Line 8 during rush hours this morning as the result of speed control of the service blamed on malfunction of the signal system.

Due to breakdown of some signal equipments, speed control was adopted on Line 8 service for more than three hours this morning, affecting morning commuters.

The equipment problem is reported to occur on the stretch between Shendu Highway and Oriental Sports Center stations, according to Metro operator.

The problem was announced by the Metro operator on Weibo at 5:25am and was fixed at 8:25am.

To ensure safety, intervals between trains had to be extended during the speed control period as manual driving mode was adopted, said the operator.
