Spouse searching event again packs park
ANOTHER 15,000 single people and parents flocked to Expo Park yesterday, bringing the total number of participants to this year's grand matchmaking party to almost 40,000, doubling the figure of last year.
But organizers said they had no plan to host another event so big this year. Last year's event, the first of its kind on such a massive scale, took place in November, stirring speculation that the organizers would turn it into a twice-yearly event.
"Hosting such a big event is very time- and energy-consuming and some illegal matchmaking agencies cashed in on the event," said Zhou Jueming, director of the Shanghai Matchmakers Association.
She said small-scale events will be held throughout the year as a way for anxious parents to seek partners for their sons or daughters.
