Spring sales under way

MAJOR department stores in the city have begun their Spring Festival sales trying to attract customers with discounts, coupons and gifts.

The Times Square complex on Huaihai Road is offering coupons worth between 100 yuan (US$14.7) and 400 yuan to customers who spend a set amount in the store from today till February 16.

The Yong'an Department Store on Nanjing Road has been giving customers a 100-yuan discount for every 190 yuan spent from last Friday to January 18. Stores in the Bailian Group will send small gifts to customers this Friday.

During the Spring Festival, clothes and bags in the Super Brand Mall will be at half price. All customers will be given a red envelope for happiness no matter how much they spend.

The Life Hub at Daning in Zhabei District will auction some laptops, LCD TVs, gym cards and brand name garments from one yuan on January 25, the eve of the Spring Festival.

As well as traditional promotions, the PCD Stores Wujiaochang Branch will give every customer a 50-yuan coupon if they donate a winter coat from this Thursday till January 22.

The coupon can be used in most counters of the store and the donated clothes will be sent to charity organizations.

Although food and clothes are heavily discounted, jewelry, watches and cosmetics are not. And many stores will close early on the eve of the Spring Festival and open late on the first day of the New Year.
