Steel rods fell from crane, blocking traffic

A bundle of steel rods tumbled down when they were hoisted at a Metro station construction site in downtown Shanghai this morning, damaging a barrier wall and holding up traffic.

No one was hurt in the accident that happened around 5:30am on Maoming Road N., close to Nanjing Road W., where a Metro Line 12 station is under construction.

Witnesses said falling steel rods damaged the barrier wall separating the site from Maoming Road. An overhead wire for trolley buses was also ripped off.

Trolley buses lined up for repair work which was completed by noon.
