Sterner Security Measures In Place
STARTING today, it will take more time to board flights at the city's two airports as security beefs up in anticipation of the World Expo.
Airport security staff will use a special test paper to detect any explosives, flammable items or prohibited chemical substances in passenger's bags.
Security staff will rub the papers on travelers or their luggage and be able to tell immediately if there's been recent contact with prohibited items. The same method was used during the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The airport authorities have tightened the security checks twice in the past two years ahead of important events: once for the Olympics Games and again for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Estimates are that 15 million people, including 3.5 million international travelers, will come to the city by plane during the Expo.
