Stores with safety flaws stay open
AT least six stores required to close after failing fire safety checks were still operating yesterday at the newly opened Shanghai Takashimaya in Changning District.
Fire authorities said they were investigating and would demand that the stores were closed before passing another inspection.
"We are already in the process of fixing the problems under the guidance of the local fire prevention department," said the owner of one of the open stores who declined to be named.
Mall officials said four to five others that failed had been shut and were waiting to be checked again. Most of the mall's stores sell clothes.
A mall manager surnamed Shi said they were "cooperating'' on safety issues.
At the JNBY clothing store, a clerk said potential hazards were detected and they were fixing them. The store failed an inspection on May 13.
