Subsidies for fire survivors
RESIDENTS who lived in the 28-floor building in Jing'an District damaged in an inferno on November 15 will receive 70 yuan (US$10) per square meter each month as a monthly subsidy to rent other apartments, government officials said yesterday. The subsidies will end once residents are permanently resettled. Most now live in temporary accommodation.
Meanwhile, people who rented apartments in the damaged building will also receive compensation. The subsidies will be covered by construction companies which were blamed for the blaze.
