Subsidy up for 'green' buildings
SHANGHAI will increase subsidies for energy-saving projects in construction and transportation, two major sources of energy consumption.
Each building qualified as a "green'' energy saver will be eligible for subsidies of 60 yuan (US$9.79) per square meter. A project built for low-cost housing is eligible for up to 10 million yuan, said officials.
Subsidies for transport projects have amounted to over 75 million yuan in the past three years and will grow, even though sometimes progress is slow, officials said.
One way Shanghai's Metro saves energy is through air-conditioning system renovations. About four years into a renovation project, only a little over 30 subway stations have been done.
The city has more than 280 Metro stations.
