Subway crowds
THE experience of jam-packed subway trains will make an inevitable return on the local Metro network starting today due to post-Spring Festival factors, according to the Metro authority. More than 1.4 million elementary and secondary schools students join the morning rush in the chilly weather to start their new semester today.
Additionally, migrant workers are continuing to pour back into Shanghai after the holiday. Metro management estimated that daily subway ridership will rebound to more than 6 million people, the daily average before the Spring Festival period. The holiday season traditionally ends on the Lantern Festival, which this year came yesterday.
