Suit against airlines dismissed

A CHINESE passenger who dragged China Eastern Airlines to court because of flight delay lost his case.

The passenger, surnamed Zhang, was on a Paris-bound China Eastern Airlines flight which took off from Pudong at 11:55pm on September 27 last year.

En route, the flight had to make an unscheduled landing in Beijing after a foreign passenger needed urgent hospitalization. It landed in Beijing at 2:45am, but it could not take off for another one-and-a-half hours. When Zhang arrived in Paris, the flight was late by over two hours. He missed the train to Angoulême and was forced to buy another ticket for 112 euros.

Zhang demanded that airlines should pay for his losses. When the airlines refused, he filed a suit against it.

The court said the delay was due to humanitarian reasons because of a sick passenger on board, and not the airlines fault. Besides, the flight was already on route and not delayed at the airport.
