Survival rate of patients with most common type of lung cancer has doubled in 10 years

The survival rate of patients with the most common type of lung cancer more than doubled in the past 10 years, when targeted medicine became available on the Chinese market, experts said a medical forum today.

Non-small-cell lung cancer accounts for 80 percent of all lung cancer cases and 75 percent of patients with such cancer are diagnosed at the terminal stage.

Targeted medicine attacks cancerous tissue with little damage to healthy cells, thus greatly reducing side effects.

The average length of survival has been prolonged from 14.1 months to 33.5 months and the five-year survival rate, which considered as recovery clinically, has increased from 8 percent to 18 percent.

Lung cancer is the most common cancer in China and the country’s biggest cancer killer.
