Suspect caught in Yangtze
A 26-YEAR-OLD man has been detained on suspicion of killing one colleague and injuring three others at the store where they worked and lived on Chongming Island late Friday night.
Police suspect Xu Renbing, from Zhejiang, used a blunt iron object to strike the male victims who were all asleep at the time of the attack.
The attack happened at a hardware store in Chengqiao Town after Xu suspected his girlfriend of having an affair with the dead man. However, police said it is unclear why he attacked the others, who are in stable conditions.
The Shanghai Maritime Safety Bureau said Xu was found in the Yangtze River near Nanmen Port on Saturday after residents spotted him floating on a log.
Coast guards pulled him out of the water thinking he had fallen in but his reluctance to confirm his identity raised the officers' suspicions. When they realized Xu was wanted for murder he was taken into police custody.
